Chez Michel
Hospitality expressed before the door is opened.
Distilled from
Provence • Sun • Hospitality
The identity for Chez Michel draws its inspiration from the warmth, generosity, and enduring traditions of Provence.
When describing the food of his homeland, Michel often said that eating in Provence was like tasting the sun. That simple expression became more than a description of the cuisine—it captured the spirit of the place itself. It spoke of warmth, generosity, fresh ingredients, and meals shared slowly among family and friends.
Rather than creating a decorative French motif, the identity sought to express that feeling. The result is a visual language that welcomes guests with the same quiet warmth long before the first meal is served.
The Brief
Chez Michel celebrates the food and spirit of Provence.
The identity needed to reflect the warmth and authenticity of southern France while creating a memorable presence that felt established rather than themed.
The goal was to create an expression of place—one that honoured the culture from which the cuisine emerged.
Reading the Place
The villages of Provence are shaped by centuries of history. Sun-warmed stone, weathered shutters, vineyards, markets, and cafés create a landscape where architecture, food, and community exist as one.
Michel often described the cuisine of his homeland with a simple phrase: "It's like tasting the sun."
That sentiment became the foundation of the project. It wasn't simply about food, but about a way of living—where generosity, conversation, and the pleasures of the table are woven into everyday life.
The identity looked beyond recipes and ingredients, seeking instead to express the warmth and hospitality that define Provence itself.
