A new Canadian documentary film producer required a grounded, fresh and distinct identity that would translate well into a short animation.
Concept 1: The thought process started with the name Maplerock. Research revealed that trees are traditionally referred to as keepers of the story, as they witness the passage of time and events.
Warm and grounding but it needed to be fresher and more contemporary.
Concept 2: The second image simulated overlapping beams of stage lighting, forming a maple leaf.
Concept 3: A story also unfolds or is formed from a single event, its many facets and characters shaping an overall storyline. The animation would be a single piece of red paper folded into an origami inspired maple leaf.
An established premium cheese shop in Thorbury Ontario felt they weren't connecting with passerbys and were seeking signage that was more engaging and fitted to their business, location and building.
The challege was create a street presence with a small hanging sign (restricted by local bylaws) on the large blank face of their strore front.
The solution was in the sign hanger, it was designed to utilize and visually activate the broad empty storefront creating movement and interest. The the form and materials respected the building's (and village's) historic beginnings, anchoring the design in the charm of this early Ontario Village.
The sign shape was kept simple so as not to distract from the form of the sign holder and their (established) logo.
A smoothie bar with the name that represented their product and reflected the history of creemore's former Power and light company.

A weekend getaway in the Muskoka woods required a sign that would complement its surroundings and reflects the Scottish heritage of its inhabitants.
The sign's form was Inspired by ancient Celtic markers that dot the the moors of Scotland. The Celtic owl talisman design repeated on all four sides and cap echo the lines of Gothic cottage architecture.
It's been some time since I've taken fitches in hand and lettered a wall... I was in my element and had a great time in spite of the 70km/hr winds.
The lettering placement occupied the same space where some had existed 100 years previous.
The new lettering had to be clean and crisp, while fusing into the building's historical patina.
Appearing as if it had always been there.
