St Alban’s Church - Sign Rationale
The design of the sign must be in keeping with the historical integrity of the site. It is important to design in proper proportion to the building and with visibility from the road. In essence to make it look as though it has always been there. The sign shape was determined by the pitch of the church roof and general proportions of the building. Features such as the bottom curve, small corbel supports and Gothic shape cap were alsoinspired by details of the architecture., The cross is the same as the one used on the church steeple and shares a focal point with the cursive type style that was typical of that time period. The single post is used to simplify the design, complimenting but not taking away from the sign. Colours are warm, earthy, natural, and grounded that harmonize with the colour of the stone and lend an overall simple elegance and dignity. The proposed placement would provide correct relation to the building and serve as a welcome along the path.
Overall the design effortlessly blends with the site as classically and timelessly as the church itself.
